The School Funk

The past month or so we were dealing with a lot. School, family, no time for friends, fun, or each other. The good news is we are so close to the light at the end of the tunnel. Last week we got a small taste of what real married life is like, and it was amazing!!! All our friends are home, and I cannot wait for time with them!!

I also cannot wait to hear if Jacob got the job working days. I am writing this to myself as a reminder to NEVER take advantage of being able to have Jacob home at night. It brings me comfort. We don’t live in the safest of areas, and so many nights I have heard things and been scared. The nights that he is home, I sleep so much better.

Not only do I want him home at nights, but I cannot wait to have a date night or maybe two!! (Of course I am already counting down the days until we go on our vacation to Padre!!) We can maybe even clean the house, do a project, or have a lazy day at home! I cannot wait.

Also, something huge happened at work this week for me. For those of you that don’t know I am currently a manager on the front-end at H-E-B. This summer (either June or July) I will be interviewing for SORM, or School of Retail Management at H-E-B. This is an amazing opportunity. After working at H-E-B for only two years I may be able to be a titled manager with stock and even larger opportunities ahead of me. My managers all believe I will be able to get in without any problems (pray they are right!!!).

Anyways, in preparation for my interview, I have been given some projects to improve productivity on the front end. One of my projects involved B.O.B. (bottom of the basket). H-E-B loses an insane amount of money by people forgetting about what’s on the bottom of their cart, etc. For my project, I put together some training for managers, training for cashiers and baggers, and a B.O.B audit to be sure they were doing what they were told. Meanwhile, we were training a guy in service who will eventually graduate from SORL (school of retail leadership) to be the GM of his own store. When he went to meet with his boss (a leader in the Central Texas region), he took my BOB project to his meeting, and the leader was so impressed that he wanted more information. This may not go anywhere big, but just to know that someone high up in the ladder was interested in my work is a HUGE deal. I take a lot of pride in my job, and I am so thankful that my hard work was recognized!

Tomorrow is my last final…until then we will keep studying!!
