I love reading people’s posts about how they got together. While it is still semi-fresh in my mind, I want to do a post about us. So here it goes….This is the story of us.
Freshman year (September 2008): Homecoming season is quickly upon us. It is EVERYTHING in high school to have a date to homecoming. It is important to have the biggest mum, the best garter, and the cutest date. So I was all about this one guy freshman year. He was one of my best friends, Alex. One day, Alex promised me that someone would ask me out and I shouldn’t worry about it. I was so nervous. Being in 9th grade, I just knew it would be Alex who would ask me. Then one night I get a text from Alex telling me he had asked out another girl to homecoming and she had said yes. Needless to say I was crushed. All my other guy friends had already asked someone and the number of guys without a date was down to two, Cody and Jacob.
Back then I really was not a fan of Jacob. We had both been dumped by our “ex’s” (8th grade so it was a big deal…now I want to thank CC and Cameron). After that we had been talking all summer. He was mean, and I was not a fan. It was September 26th around 8:30 AM (I know because I still have that text on my phone) and I got a text from Jacob. A TEXT! It said “Hey:) So I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go to Homecoming with me?:)” Me being desperate for a date I said yes. (I should add that this was ONE WEEK before Homecoming…always a procrastinator). So that was that. Funny mini-story here. I was on the bus when I got that text. As soon as I get to school all of my friends bombard me with “DO YOU KNOW WHO JACOB ASKED TO HOMECOMING!?!? He won’t tell us!!” I look over at Jacob, and he motions to me to keep quiet so I play along. I was deemed “matchmaker” in high school, so everyone figured I would have known. As the bell rang and we walked off to class, Jacob looked back and said, “Oh by the way, I am going to homecoming with Hannah.” He flashed his oh so cute smile and we walked off together. Maybe that was when I started to fall for him.
Anyways, the next day my best friend Taylor and I were celebrating our birthdays with a pedicure together. We get a text asking if we wanted to go to the movies with Jacob and CJ (CJ was Taylor’s date). We agreed, but we didn’t know if this was like going to homecoming as friends as what. My mom dropped us off hoping that we would figure out some answers.
We are watching the movie Eagle Eye (excellent movie, but I was too busy focusing on my butterflies to watch the movie. Before the movie starts, Jacob sees his neighbor Amy. Amy asks Jacob “are you here with you girlfriend?!?” Without a pause he tells her, “YES! This is Hannah.” I had my answer, I was his girlfriend. This was not something I had agreed to, so I wasn’t sure how to feel about it. I went with it and enjoyed the movie. He hugged me goodbye at the end of the night and from then on we were the “it” couple of the school.
Before we were together, we were just friends and if anyone had told me that I would marry that boy I would have told them no way. We have changed together, been through the good and the bad, and we have grown with God together. I know that every step of my life is something so much bigger than me. Jacob was a part of God’s plan for me, and I am so thankful he sent that tall, cute, yet somewhat irritating 14 year-old-boy into my life to rock my world.
Homecoming was always a big deal to me, because it was what brought us together. This is some of my favorite Homecoming pictures.
This was him bringing over the mum: Always so tan…I hate him:)
Terrible photo, but this was the gang: CJ, Taylor, Me, and Jacob (He wouldn’t ever smile!)

The girls
After every game we would wait for the boys outside the locker room. Even the coaches new us. We watched EVERY SINGLE PRACTICE. One time Jessica and I even sat in the pouring rain and watched the boys practice.
This was the first of the part of our story. There are many more stories that I will post about our past and our future. This boy is my everything. I love everything about him and everything about our story.
